The Georgia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics supports whole-heartedly the work and goals of the ACCESS Healthcare Coalition. As nearly two-thirds of all the state's Medicaid patients are children, pediatricians have struggled to maintain viable practices while continuing to provide medical care for these children as very low reimbursement rates.

Many small communities in our state have no pediatricians already and if Medicaid reimbursement rates cannot be moved up at least to near market rates, the vialbility of many pediatric practices in some parts of the state will be threatened, thus disminishing this important medical resource for the entire community of children--not just those on Medicaid.
